Wonder Books

We are creating Wonder Books for our non-fiction unit in reading. Wonder Books are that place where we wonder about the world and marvel at things we have learned. Wonder Books are also the place where we put our research on various topics of interest. They will provide most of our grade for engagement and effort this quarter, and will contain the research we do for specific projects. Wonder Books can contain:

• Statements of prior knowledge and passion
• Questions and wonderings
• Current thoughts
• Topic lists
• Project ideas
• Drawings, diagrams, and doodles
• Character and swcene sketches
• Quotes from books, teachers, and other kids
• Poems and rhymes
• Observations
• Interviews
• Notes from print research (books, magazines)
• Notes from electronic research (Intermet)
• Notes on field research
• Bibliographic research
• Reminders about the craft of writing
• Models of beautiful language
• Lists of nonfiction conventions
• Photographs, pictures, and postcards
• Early drafts

Wonder Books
