Happy New Year!

We have jumped into the New Year with a bang! We began new units on Op-Ed (Opinions and Editorials) reading and writing. Today we looked at facts v. opinions - identifying which is which. This can be kind of tricky. You can be a huge help to your child by helping them sort out facts v. opinions in advertisements, newspaper editorials, opinion pieces, etc. Nice way to pass the time when you're stuck in traffic. We're also writing opinion pieces.

We started a mini-unit on state of being verbs and how we can strengthen our writing by using less state of being verbs in our writing:

The duck sat on her nest. The duck was sitting on her nest.

We're continuing perimeter and area in math, finishing up the immigration unit this week, and I'm showing the movie October Skies to introduce our science unit.
