Determining Importance

Determining importance is an important reading strategy. Actually, it's an important strategy in life. We are working on this strategy in our reading about immigration. We began with reading about transportation. Students need to highlight the most important information. Sometimes we work in a large group, sometimes small groups, and sometimes individually.

Proficient readers...

· identify key ideas or themes as they read
· distinguish important from unimportant information in relation to key ideas or themes in text. They can distinguish important information at
the word, sentence and text level.
· utilize text structure and text features (such as bold or italicized print, figures and photographs) to help them distinguish important from unimportant information

Determinando importancia
Determinando la importancia es una estrategia de lectura importante. Realmente, es una estrategia importante en la vida. Estamos trabajando en esta estrategia en nuestra lectura sobre la inmigración. Nosotros empezamos leyendo sobre el transporte. Los estudiantes necesitan resaltar la información más importante. A veces trabajamos en un grupo grande, a veces los grupos pequeños, y a veces individualmente.
