The Scrapes Stop Here

The other day we were talking about relationships - how to treat one another - in the class. I thought of an analogy. When we fall down and scrape our hands, we don't want anyone to touch it because it hurts so much.

Well, sometimes we get scrapes on our hearts because of unkind words and actions of others. The immediate reaction can be to hurt the other person back, but that simply causes more scrapes on our hearts and makes the problem worse.

To make a difference, each one of us needs to make a decision that the scrapes stop here. If we decide to forgive that helps our scraped hearts heal. If we decide to hold on to the hurts our hearts get even more scraped up.

Let's try to be people that make a difference. Really, my theme for this year is: One Person Can Make a Difference. We study it in many areas of life in Social Studies. Let's put it to work in the classroom.

El otro día estábamos hablando sobre las relaciones - cómo tratarse entre si - en la clase. Pensé en una analogía. Cuando nosotros nos caemos y raspamos nuestras manos, no queremos que nadie nos toque allí porque hiere mucho. A veces tenemos heridas en nuestros corazones debido a las palabras duras y acciones de otros. La reacción inmediata puede ser herir a la otra persona de regreso, pero eso causa más heridas y hace el problema mayor.

Para hacer una diferencia, cada uno de nosotros necesitamos tomar una decisión y parar aquí. Si nosotros decidimos perdonar eso ayuda a nuestros corazones heridos a sanar. Si nosotros decidimos aferrarnos a las heridas de nuestros corazones nos herimos aun más.

Intentemos ser personas que harán la diferencia. Realmente, mi tema durante este año será: Cada Persona puede Hacer la Diferencia. Nosotros lo estudiamos en muchas áreas de vida en los Estudios Sociales. Pongámoslo en práctica en el aula.
